It isn’t until you come to a spiritual understanding of who you are-not necessarily a religious feeling, but deep down, the spirit within-that you can begin to take control. –Oprah Winfrey
Holiday Energy 101: Getting Motivated
Order My Weight Release DVD Here!
As promised, here is the second installment of my Holiday Energy 101. After last week’s article about getting grounded, this week takes the next step, getting motivated! How do we get going? I need to motivate myself when I least feel like it. Don’t you? How profound is that? I have spent this past two weeks in front of the computer and have not taken any time for exercise. It is my own doing, and the results of inactivity seem to creep up on you, depression, irritability, and yes, even perceived weight gain.
We need to exercise and get moving even when we’re tired or bored and just don’t feel like it. When you feel depressed, any kind of exercise - even a walk - is the LAST thing you want to do. When, in fact, it is the FIRST thing you should do. Exercise is exactly what will get you out of that slump. Think about the last time you exercised? Look at the corresponding circumstances? You may be surprised that when you stopped moving your body, it was just before you stopped moving forward in your life. As soon as you stopped moving, you probably felt down or sad.
Motivation is the key to any weight release journey. I have my “tricks of the trade” for getting motivated. For starters, this is not about being motivated for exercise. Exercise is just a small component of the entire weight release journey. The most vital component is motivation to START taking care of YOU!
This week’s Holiday Energy 101 is about self worth. Before you can be motivated to do anything, you need to experience the initial aspect of feeling worthy. My future posts are not in any specific order. You are a unique individual and will use the hints and clues which suit you best. You may find as your journey continues you will be drawn to refer to other aspects of this holiday series. Everyone eventually will find their heaven, their place, and their zone.
Holiday Energy 101: Feeling Worthy
Believe it or not, you are worth every minute you spend on you. Self-worth is perhaps the most motivating factor in weight release and in the overall healing process. How do you begin to feel good about yourself? Well, to be honest, it begins with one step in the right direction. My personal journey with exercise started with my looking into a mirror and crying “I cannot do this, I will not do this”. I could barely do one sit-up. I hated them. At the time, this directly corresponded to my level of self worth.
Your stomach is your “self worth” energy center. Sit-ups stimulate that energy center. In fact, look at the exercises you avoid and draw your own conclusions as to what keywords correspond! (Either one of my videos can help with those conclusions).
If an energy center is depleted, you tend to avoid “activating” it. My moment of forward motion happened while I was sitting on the floor of my bedroom with my arms wrapped around my knees. I was overwhelmed at the journey ahead and just decided I could not do it (again). As I sobbed and prayed I heard my inner guidance ask, “Catherine, how do you eat an elephant?” I wondered where that question came from, then the answer, “One bite at a time.” -Go figure it had to be food related, but true!
I inhaled a deep breath and mustered the courage to begin this journey, a journey I am still on. I think the real pivotal moment was when I put on an old song I had in high school, a “theme song” of sorts. I will talk about the importance of a theme song next week. I played music which became my theme song for months to come.
I did the best I could at that time, and then the next day I did a little more. Let me repeat this important point. I did the best I could at that time, and then the next day I did a little more. I started with walking. As I walked and worked out everyday, I began my affirmation “It is safe for me to move forward”.
Where does the self worth come in? You recognize and give yourself kudos for the little things, even if it is just lacing up your own shoes. Maybe buying walking shoes is the first hurdle. Then give yourself accolades for getting to that point. Say to yourself, “I’m smart to buy good sturdy shoes. Now I can enjoy a walk.” Believe it or not, the more you give yourself a compliment, no matter how small, the more opportunities you create to be proud of yourself! I would walk a little further everyday, even if it was just a few steps! And I would not focus on time, just effort. We are building your self worth stamina first, physical stamina will come naturally and later on in your journey.
Self worth does not come overnight. It, like your weight release, is a journey paved with small successes. There is a beautiful quote by Mary Anne Radmacher, “Courage does not always roar, sometimes it is the quiet voice at the end of the day saying, ‘I will try again tomorrow.’”
With each effort and compliment comes a shift in your energy. Good thoughts vibrate higher than not-so-good thoughts. With each good thought and feeling, you will bring TO you good things and opportunities. Be gentle with yourself. Be kind to yourself. Believe it or not, just getting some walking shoes for Christmas is cause for kudos and celebration! See you next week when we talk about your theme song!
